Welcome and Looking Forward to Your Company
As the scientific chairman for the upcoming APAS 2024 ASM in Mumbai, I wish to extend an invitation to ALL arthroplasty surgeons to join us for what will be an exciting and academically satisfying international hip and knee conference in August 2024. In 2023 APAS held the ASM in Cebu, Philippines and for those that attended the general response was what a great meeting where is the next one? Well, the organising committee has been working hard over the last 6 months to ensure we choose the right city and right venue to host you all in India. APAS has previously had great meetings in India recalling most recently wonderful experiences in Chennai and New Delhi in the last 10 years. For 2024 we have chosen Mumbai as the host city as India’s largest and most populated urban area in the concept of Go Big or Go Home!
Mumbai, a city of over 21 million people is the financial and commercial centre of India and its main port on the Arabian Sea. Entering Mumbai Harbour from the sea reveals its natural beauty as it is flanked and framed by the Western Ghats Mountain Range. The harbours largest island is Elephanta, famous for its 8th and 9th century Hindu cave temples. A truly cosmopolitan city, Mumbai is also home to Bollywood, India’s enormous film industry. Like all of India sport is part of its culture though some would say that cricket is more like a religion and followed by all.
The venue will be at The Westin Powai Lake, selected for its proximity to the international airport and its serenity in the centre of a giant metropolis. You will find this an excellent base for the conference but also central enough for any other activities you may plan.
Like all previous conferences APAS Mumbai will enjoy a very wide international faculty invited from over 20 nations and meshed with the best of local national faculty from India, all excellent surgeons, and speakers on their selected topics of interest and research. The focus and theme will be Current Concepts and Advances in Hip & Knee Arthroplasty. The academic program will encompass a combination of instructional course lectures, targeted clinical symposia, debates and clinical panel case discussions with expert opinions. In addition, there will be industry led seminars and workshops on the latest advances in robotics and technology that is being offered to assist you in the operating theatre on Wednesday afternoon before the commencement of the APAS scientific program. Free paper sessions will target the best research from our junior colleagues and best paper prizes will celebrate their success in bringing new knowledge to light. This year we will also be running an instructional course for the first time at APAS aimed at the younger surgeon group and this will be on the Thursday morning prior to the main academic program.
So keep those dates free August 21 to August 24 and our organising and scientific committees look forward to welcoming you to Mumbai for the 24th Annual Scientific Meeting of APAS.
